Notes on Felicity Scott's "Acid Visions"

I like the link that Scott made between trance and architecture. It reminded me of a quote by Goethe (i think), who said that "architecture is music frozen in time." Architecture is therefore imbedded with both music and the process of ego-loss. Scott cites architects, in partictular Eero Saarinen as "ego trip" architects. I am only slightly familiar with a few of Saarinen's more famous projects (JFK terminal, Yale Campus), but i sort of fail to see how Scott is able to make the claim that these builing do not inspire ego loss, while other's (namely Fuller) do. Perhaps because these structures seek to organize and divide the natural with artificial boundaries, while Fuller's geodesics are inherently natural in the geometric roots. One Saarinen building i have seen on the Yale campus is a series of dorms without a single right angle. They are slightly domelike and organic, but i suppose without use of geometry they fail to attain the natural or harmonious qualities that Fullers do? I am not sure i buy it. Here is a look at the dorms http://www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/nhsaar/nhsaar.html
